Hezekiah Burgess Sr. was born about 1802 in North Carolina. He is listed in some sources as the son of Nicholas Burgess and Abid(e) Jones, and the grandson of John Burgess, but no evidence has yet been found to prove this theory. Hezekiah married Lydia Wright (or Forbes) about 1822. He is listed in the 1830-70 censuses for Camden Co., North Carolina (in 1830 near Jose Burgess, in 1870 living with his son, Hezekiah Jr.). He died there in 1874 (an administrator was appointed for his estate on 17 November 1874?CamdenCounty Record of Settlements, 1862-1914, p. 60), having had seven sons:

Hezekiah Burgess Jr. was born about 1823 in North Carolina. He married Mary ?Polly? Kight about 1846. He is listed in the 1850-70 censuses for Old Trap, Camden Co., NC, and is noted as receiving two bonds with his wife in 1870. The fact that he was not appointed administrator of his father?s estate in 1874 (that honor went to Peter T. Burgess, son of Simeon Burgess, Hezekiah Sr.?s presumed brother), suggests that he had died by then. He died there between 1870-80, having had four sons:

Second Son of Hezekiah Jr.

James Edward Burgess was born on 12 January 1851 at Old Trap, Camden Co., North Carolina. He married firstly Matilda Mitchell on 29 December 1878 in Camden Co., secondly Elizabeth Ann Mitchell about 1882, thirdly (Lillie) Blanche Gordon on 17 March 1886 at Shiloh, Camden Co., and fourthly Susan Jones about 1898. He is listed in the 1880-1900 censuses for Old Trap, Camden Co., North Carolina. He was appointed in 1881 as the first Postmaster of Old Trap, Camden Co., and was elected to serve as a Senator from northeastern North Carolina in the State Legislature from 1897-99. He died on 25 December 1909 at Old Trap, having had ten sons (four by his first wife, one by his second, four by his third, and one by his fourth):

Willie Henry Burgess (also called Willis Burgess) was born 18 April 1886 at Old Trap, Camden Co., North Carolina. He married Eva Bell Leary on 24 June 1906 in Camden Co. Listed in the 1910-30 censuses for Camden Co. He died on 27 October 1958, and is buried in the Old Hollywood Cemetery, Elizabeth City, Pasquotank Co., North Carolina, having had four sons:
