Green Burgess was born 16 October 1832, either in North Carolina or in Williamson Co., Tennessee (the latter according to his death certificate). He married firstly Rachel Elizabeth Braden on 15 June 1858, secondly Nancy Jane Netherly on 22 September 1884, and thirdly Mary Ella Mathis on 19 January 1892, all in Williamson Co. Green Burgess first appears in the 1850 census for Williamson Co. living with Peter M. (or N.) Conley and his wife, Harriet Green Conley, with a birthplace listed of North Carolina. He continues to be listed in the 1860-80 censuses of Williamson Co. (in 1880 he states that both of his parents were born in Virginia). He died there on 14 January 1900, having had four sons by his first wife and two by his third:

Ernest Green Burgess Sr. is the ancestor of E. G. Burgess.
