Josiah Burgess was born about 1785, possibly in Connecticut. He may have been the son of a William Burgess, and is possibly descended from Thomas Burgess of Barnstable Co., Massachusetts?s second son, John Burgess Sr. He married Sarah Loomis about 1807. He is listed in the 1810 census for Genesee Co., New York. He died in 1816, either at Pittsford, Monroe Co., NY, or at Smithville, Chenango Co., NY, having had one son:

1. Seth Burgess (1813-1860+) of Cortland Co., NY

Seth Burgess is the ancestor of S. T. Burgess.
